Band


WHO ARE WE?

The St. Stephen’s Lutheran School Band Program exists to develop and hone students’ musical abilities through quality instrumental instruction and to encourage students to use their God-given talents in worship and secular settings.

ENROLLMENT

Students in grades 5-8 are eligible to enroll in the band. They must also agree to make up class work missed because of their participation in the band program.

REGISTRATION

Parents can register their child(ren) for band by contacting Brian Hildebrandt or at the school registration night.

LESSON PAYMENTS

The Band instructors is responsible for collecting payments for lessons. Parents may pay in full or will be charged for lessons according to the chart below. Payment in full before October 1st will result in a $20 discount. A sibling discount of $90 for the year is offered to families with more than one child in band.

Total if paid before October1: $340.00, $250.00 for siblings

Payments (cash or check) are due at the first lesson of the month. Please make checks payable to Brian Hildebrandt, not the school. Late payments will be charged a fee of $0.50/day. If there is a balance at the end of the quarter, the child’s participation in the band program may be suspended until full payment is made. Payments may be given in person or mailed to Mr. Hildebrandt.

BAND LESSON SCHEDULE

Students who enroll in the band program will receive at least 28 lessons during the school year. Lessons and band rehearsal will be held on Fridays.

CONTRACT

The parents and students will co-sign a document which states their understanding of the commitments expected as participants in the St. Stephen’s Band Program. This form will be sent after registration and can be returned via email.

PRACTICE GUIDE

The band instructor will provide parents and students with a chart to record practice time. The recommended amount of time is 70 minutes each week or more!.

COMMITMENT/WITHDRAWAL

It is understood that students who enroll in the school band program are committed to lessons and band for the entire school year.

EXCUSED ABSENCES

If your child is sick on his or her lesson day, or if you know in advance that he or she will miss a band lesson, please notify the band instructor directly via phone or email. You will not be refunded for missed lessons. Make-up lessons can be scheduled upon request. If your child forgets his or her music or instrument, it will NOT be counted as an excused absence.

PERFORMANCES

Participants in the St. Stephen’s Band Program will have several opportunities to perform publicly. There is an optional (but highly encouraged) concert on November 6th at Lakeside Lutheran High School at which St. Stephen’s band students combine with other area grade school band students. April 1-2 is Lakeside’s Fine Arts Festival. Other concerts include December 20th and May 23rd. All performances are mandatory unless otherwise stated.

INSTRUMENTS AND SUPPLIES

Every student will need his or her own instrument.Several area music stores offer instruments for sale or for rent. A music stand is essential to promote proper posture and technique while practicing at home. Therefore, all students should have their own music stands. They are inexpensive and available for purchase at local music stores.

WHO ARE WE?

Our piano program exists to give children in grades 2-8 an opportunity to develop and use their keyboard skills to the glory of God.

WHO ARE WE?

The Junior Choir exists to give students an opportunity to use their singing gifts to the glory of God.

DRESS CODE

Children will need a white polo shirt, black dress pants, black dress socks, and black dress shoes to wear for special occasions (Advent song service, Ascension song service, Lakeside Fine Arts Fair, and others to be determined later). The polo shirt order forms will be made available in the fall for those that need a polo shirt.

The year is going to be busy, but it is going to be a great opportunity to sing of the blessings that the Lord has given to us.

Members of the Junior Choir will be encouraged to participate in the Individual Vocal Section of the Lakeside

Lutheran Fine Arts Fair. What a wonderful way to show your individual gifts that God has given to you.

Forensics

OUR PURPOSE

If you like reading poetry, reading or telling stories, demonstrating how something is done, or would like to make a speech – join forensics.

MORE INFORMATION

We will meet next Monday after school in Miss Geiger’s room, Room 109.

On Monday I will explain the categories in more detail, help you choose one that you might be best suited for, and give you different sources of material to look at and choose what interests you. Plan to stay until 5:00.

MEETS

There will be a meet Friday,October 20,which will be hosted by us, here at St.Stephens. A second meet will be the first Friday on November 3, for the top 2 in each category of: poetry, prose, story- telling, demonstration, and speech.

OTHER INFORMATION

Forensics will go from now through the first week of November. You will be asked to set up 2 times a week to stay after school from 3:30-5:00 to practice. You will be given a calendar to fill out days that you can work with me and other helpers. I will try to work around your activities and time outside school. Talk it over with your parents. Consider what a great experience it can be entertaining and sharing with others what you are interested in and can do! Meet Monday after school from 3:40-5:00 in Miss Geiger’s classroom, 109 and learn more about forensics and what it all involves.
